Speaking Up.<\/span><\/p>\n

A couple of weeks ago I expressed my opinion on R\u00edo+20<\/a>. Now, I need to highlight the good part of it. In these international meetings, the speeches given try not to offend anybody, as well as not getting involved too much in conflict; stay clean\u2026 But those who write the speeches for the politicians make sure catchy<\/em> phrases appear every now and then to gain attention: climate change \u2013 sustainable development \u2013 natural resources.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, for he who speaks up and gives his true opinion, this kind of meeting is an excellent moment to talk face to face with those decision makers of the world. Pepe Mujica, president of Uruguay, took the microphone and asked the entire room: Are we governing globalization? Or is globalization governing us?<\/em><\/p>\n

Leaving the common speech aside, centered, true\u2026 he stated that what we need to rethink is our way of living<\/em>. Highlighting the fact that no good<\/em> has more value than life itself, Mujica criticizes the western consumption and waste system facing the explosion of our species demography on Earth. He associates this issue not to an environmental problem, but a political one, which craves for the emergence of a new culture<\/span>.<\/p>\n
