Not even to mention what would happen if the River had a couple of words with Mister Forest, and the latter sued the business as well for mutilation\u2026 What kind of complaints would La Pampa\u2019s Atuel River have to make? Same as many other rivers, drained by our means of production.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cIn the last two centuries, four hundred and seventy mountains have been decapitated in the north American Appalachian Mountains chain, called this way in the memory of the natives who lived in that region.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The indigenous people were stripped of their lands because they inhabited fertile soil.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The mountains were emptied because they contained coal.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\" align=\"right\">Eduardo Galeano. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Los hijos de los d\u00edas<\/span>. P. 186<em><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The kiwi\u2019s measure was thought and taken forward by the members of the <strong><em>Whanhganui iwi<\/em><\/strong> indigenous community, who carry the same name as the river. The fact of calling themselves the same way as <em>the most dynamical natural part<\/em> of the ecosystem that surrounds them shows the deep symbiosis relationship between them and their land.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Once again, the indigenous people are the first to go out and defend nature actively. Only now it will be easier for them, because they are not defending something vulnerable and corruptible by the system. On the contrary, that <em>something<\/em> is now <em>someone<\/em>. \u00a0Someone with the ability to speak up for himself and <em>legally<\/em> claim his rights. We will no longer be considered as mere <em>hippies<\/em> making noise outside the parliament.<em><\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1350\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ploff.net\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BA-76-Whanganui-River-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1350\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1350 \" title=\"BA 76 - Whanganui River 2\" alt=\"Whanganui River\" src=\"https:\/\/ploff.net\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BA-76-Whanganui-River-2.jpg\" width=\"540\" height=\"317\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ploff.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BA-76-Whanganui-River-2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ploff.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BA-76-Whanganui-River-2-300x176.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1350\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Whanganui River<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The agreement recognizes the status of the river as \u201c<em>Te Awa Tupua\u201d <\/em>(<strong>an integral living whole<\/strong>). A precise and profound definition, that personifies the river taking into account all of its components, trophic chains, flora and energy exchanges; and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span> only ONE VOICE\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The question is <em>who will represent the river? <\/em>\u00a0In this case, those who know how to listen and interpret best the needs of nature: the indigenous people.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But, if this measure expands worldwide, <em>and it would be a positive move indeed if it does<\/em>, the voice, the will, the soul of the defended natural resource cannot be perpetuated by a political figure or any political party.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The natural resources needed the institutionalization (the recognition) in order to talk with the same rules among corrupt businessman and politicians, but not to politicize themselves and fall into the competitive inertia of political campaigns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this way, each natural resource would be represented by a group of local ecological and indigenous movements, as well as NGOs whose activities are immersed in the dynamics of the resource. Hence, we stay on the track of changing the social hierarchical pyramid, leaving a conglomeration of local organizations &#8211;<em>which represent our activities and the ecosystem which sustains them<\/em>&#8211; between POWER and THE PEOPLE.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ploff.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BA-76-Pir\u00e1mide-y-Rombo-jer\u00e1rquico-english.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1348\" title=\"BA 76 - Pir\u00e1mide y Rombo jer\u00e1rquico english\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/ploff.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BA-76-Pir\u00e1mide-y-Rombo-jer\u00e1rquico-english.jpg\" width=\"586\" height=\"249\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Untill next week.
