Greetings!
Today I wanted to mention Vint Cerf –the inventor of internet– who visit Argentina this year. In his visit, he was interviewed by Santiago Bilinkis, who I quoted several times in our newsletters. The interview is brief, but very vivacious, and you can si the sincerity in the life philosophy of this guy. (in this link you can find the interview & the Bilinkis’ article)
Vint Cerf says that “Sometimes, especially when you are young, it makes sense to take the risky road. First of all because it may turn out to be the best and most interesting thing you could do, and second, if you are young enough, it doesn’t matter if you mess up, you have plenty of time to recover” And he speaks truth, because the decisions which take a greater risk are usually the ones that bring greater success in the long run at an emotional and spiritual level. But sometimes it is very hard to do it.
And for today… with no date: now, is an invitation for us to take the tough road. And for us to do that which we want to do and we might not take the jump towards it. When Bilinkis asks Cerf what things does he do that takes him out of the confort zone, he simply says: I push myself out of my confort zone in order to be effective. It left me thinking, because leaving the confort zone is making sacrifices, to take responsibility for what we want to do, to activate ourselves…
I found a couple of things; maybe it comes in handy for someone. If anyone has a good idea on how to turn sustainable the concept of living in a city, then you have a chance to show yourselves and expose your idea. A huge achievement of the internet is the TED organization (Technology Education Design), which we have quoted indeed as well in this web site. For the 2012 edition, they have decided to award a concept: The 2.0. City. They have already formed a panel of urbanists, arquitects and economists. Any individual or association who wants to propose ideas about this issue, shall have to send his proposal to [email protected] and wait until February 29th, 2012.
On the other hand, the already quoted web site ecoportal.net, is renewing its online courses for this new year. This courses are cool, because they do not exist yet at an university level, but still… an organization decides that it is important to teach these concepts, they gather up minds, professionals, they propose an idea, an entire course, and a new online course is available. The creative and emotional potential of the internet is shocking.
Facing this new year, we could change the world, for a change…
Huge hug,
Brian Longstaff.-
