Listen to this quote closely inside your mind, makes you cling on these thoughts within your day:
“Mankind today, who wears the mask of a giant, has turned into a weak and helpless being, dependent on the machine << he >> has created and, hence, dependent on those leaders who ensure the proper functioning of the economy, terrified by the fear of losing all his advantages, of being << a man with no rank nor title >>, to just be, to have to ask himself: << Who am I? >>
In brief, the modern man has a lot of things and uses lots of thing, but he is a very trivial thing. His feelings and thoughts are atrophied, like muscles in misuse. He has such fear to any social change that any perturbation of the equilibrium means chaos or death to him: if not a physical death, the death of his identity.” – Erich Fromm. Del Tener al Ser. (From having to being) Ed. Paidós. Barcelona, 2007. P. 148 y 149.
It is because of these unfounded fears, of these habit of living these way, that we cannot change our harmful way of living.
And like this, is how electric cars already exist, but they are not on sale because if so, the oil business would not be indispensable and we would stop depending on the system. But we do not stand up for change, we content ourselves every time we find gas at a cheap price.
Like this, millions of dollars flow towards shows (bread and circus), but hunger and thirst keep on being the main concern throughout the day in the countries we forgot. It is the fear of change the one that makes the engineer succumb to the bribe he is offered in order to lie in the conclusion of an environmental impact study, to favor the business that subsidizes a government that subsidizes champagne football, laziness, frenetic media, inertia.
It is a mistake to think we have freedom of choice when consuming when 10 huge businesses are the ones who bought all the other ones (but this is not said in the label at large; on the contrary, the old label is left unchanged for you not to see what happens behind the scenes: centralization of money, power, resources, capital, destinies)
We need to start perceiving things correctly. It would be great if it was as easy as pressing this button. But it is not.
Sometimes I feel like the only solution is self education, talk stuff with people, read about these topics, watch documentaries, whatever…
A couple of interesting websites, for example, Cosmo Learning, a site with very diverse courses and video conferences; or a TED’s link with 1oo websites you should know and use.
Cheers!,
