An everywhere applicable idea
Today, December 10th, is a very important day for the people of Santa Rosa, La Pampa: at 7 o´clock in the afternoon, the first Critical Mass will take place around the city.
This is what we want to achieve:
We´ve already mentioned more than a year ago in the awareness newsletter n° 25… the Critical Mass is a sustainable, peaceful and massive social mobilization, which has been replicated in several cities around the world for the last 20 years. It is a collective manifestation of people who move along naturally, without using fossil fuels to achieve it, promoting a more sustainable and healthy life through using a bike or any means of transportation fueled with blood, rollers, skate, longboard, etc…
Simply put, people who meet just to go for a ride, not disturbing the traffic because they ARE the traffic.
The essential is the fact that this idea can be replicated in any other city, and that is what happened in Santa Rosa in no longer than 12 hours after the idea emerged; thanks to the motivational inertia generated when you do the right thing…
My friends Flora Toral, Jenny Ríos & Abby Viale, got in contact with the people who started the Critical Mass in Buenos Aires, 600 km. away from here, which extended already to Córdoba and La Plata (the 2 biggest cities in Argentina after Buenos Aires) and then created the public event and Facebook Group Account (“Masa Crítica La Pampa” – La Pampa Critical Mass) in order to create a buzz and in only half a day 100 people confirmed their presence like soldiers called to battle. Only this battle against the system is perpetuated with cultural expression, with fraternity and good vibes.
Our city, Santa Rosa, is of about 120.000 citizens… so we’ve got great expectations with our hundred participants gathered!
If you are near this town, we invite you to ride with us for a while… but if you are in your own hometown, in another city, thinking what a good idea and want to implement it, trust that you can! You only need to cooperate with a few around you, get organized, set a time and space and go out to the streets.
This will be only a pilot event, but every first Sunday of every new month, around 4 o’clock in the afternoon, thousands and thousands of people around the world hit the streets in a serene ride for a better world. It is only a good idea, which we can apply anywhere you got good willing people ready to use their bikes, not only as a means of transportation, but like a tool for cultural expression.
Congrats to Flora, Jenny and Abby. You’ve already set in motion a tiny snowball which is now falling straight down; you now have to wait until the seed of the idea germinates within the consciousness of many.
We are made for big things…
The picture says: “The economic system does not promote the use of the bike. Because Bikes can change the economic system”
Until next week!
